Past
Events in Phoenix
2017, 2018
We had small events these
two years but no details are available at this time.
2016
In 2016 we had a social
function at The Grid in Mesa on April 12. We had prizes for the
best space themed costumes and legos to build spaceships. There
was a DJ with space-themed tunes. The Grid is a neon-filled
bar/arcade and blends the best craft beers with gaming culture.
This was a free event.
2015
For 2015, the NSS and Moon
Society Phoenix chapters joined up with the YN event hosted by the
ASU chapter of the Students for the Exploration and Development of
Space (SEDS) on the Tempe campus. The primary sponsor of this
event was the ASU chapter of SEDs, with additional support
provided by the Phoenix Section of American Institute of
Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), and the local chapters of the
National Space Society and the Moon Society. We did rockets, a
movie, and food.
2014
NSS - Phoenix got together
with ASU SEDS at their event on the Tempe campus.
2013
Our 2013 event was a
social held on Friday, April 12, 2013. It was an evening of
entertainment, networking, and socializing, held in conjunction
with the Space Access Conference at the InnPlace Hotel Phoenix
North. The Phoenix AIAA sponsored a hotel suite and we hosted a
very fine party which drew many local NSS, Moon Society, and AIAA
members as well as Space Access attendees. Not to mention the
Lindenwood College volleyball team. The trivia contest was a blast
and we gave out a lot of goodies and posters and other neat space
stuff.
Thanks to all who attended and helped out!
2012
NSS Phoenix planned an event for Yuri’s Night 2012 on 12 April.
The venue was the Space Access ’12 conference, which was be held
at the (former) Grace Inn, 10827 S 51st St in Phoenix. AIAA
sponsored a hospitality suite for Yuri’s Night from 6:00 PM to
10:00 PM and all of the space oriented societies will be there.
Stop by and put your name in the hat for the drawing of an
Autographed Copy Of “Crater” by Homer Hickam. At 7:00 PM we will
conduct the “Space Trivia Challenge”. Identify 20 images from the
Space Age for a chance to win a Yuri’s Night T-shirt. We will
repeat the “Challenge” at 9:00 PM with a different set of images.
Registration at Space Access is encouraged, but not required for
Yuri’s Night.
Prior Years
Veronica Ann Zabalaa-Aliberto, who was heading the Phoenix NSS
chapter at that time, was planning some activities from 2006 -
2011, but no records have been found of those events.
